In a heartwarming collaboration, Newport Live and The Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre proudly teamed up with Foster Wales Newport for an enchanting evening dedicated to local families and children in care, offering a special opportunity to experience the festive magic of live theatre. Marking the opening of The Riverfront’s 2024 pantomime, Dick Whittington, the theatre was brimming with joy as guests, including the Mayor and Mayoress of Newport, joined friends, colleagues, and community members for this celebratory night.

Guests were treated to more than just a spectacular performance. The evening began with festive nibbles, drinks, and entertainment from Newport’s own Bois Y Bryn, whose lively sea shanties filled the theatre with spirit and song. As part of the night’s festivities, guests had the chance to meet the cast of Dick Whittington, who shared a glimpse into the pantomime magic.

Dick Whittington, the classic rags-to-riches tale, swept audiences on a journey with Dick and his loyal cat as they set out to seek fortune, friendship, and plenty of laughs. The night was full of laughter, interactive moments, and awe as the pantomime’s eye-catching scenery, brilliant costumes, and hilarious gags captivated everyone, from young first-time theatre-goers to seasoned pantomime lovers.

Sharon Casey, Head of Theatre, Arts and Culture at Newport Live said “We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who joined us to celebrate this special night. At Newport Live, we believe the magic of theatre is for everyone, and there’s something truly special about sharing this pantomime season with families and children who may be experiencing theatre for the very first time—especially during the festive season.”

Andrea Ovey, Director of Business Development, added: “As a registered charity, Newport Live relies on the support of our valued partners and the communities across the region to continue creating magical experiences like Dick Whittington. This support enables us to bring the joy of theatre and the arts to as many people as possible, building connections within our community and inspiring audiences of all ages.”

The Dick Whittington pantomime will continue to run at The Riverfront Theatre until January 4th, 2025.
