We’re committed to providing a varied and diverse range of exercise classes that meet the needs of our community. In recent years, demand for water-based exercise classes has soared, which is why we’re investing in staff training to ensure that we have enough qualified instructors to meet this demand. In the coming months, all of our centres will benefit from more qualified instructors capable of delivering energetic and engaging aqua fitness classes.
Through a partnership with leading fitness industry provider, HFE, we’re supporting a number of the Newport Live team with their level 2 aqua fitness Instructor course. On completion of the training, the team will be fully qualified to teach water-based fitness sessions with YMCA Awards and CIMSPA endorsed qualifications.
Here at Newport Live, we are dedicated to supporting the health and wellbeing of our communities. This partnership with HFE allows us to maximise the impact of our investment, so that more instructors can be qualified, which ultimately allows us to expand our provision of aqua fitness classes.
Water-based exercise is a staple of our group exercise timetable and is especially popular because it is a low-impact, meaning that those participants with bone or joint conditions (e.g., low back pain, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis) can still participate to a high level. These classes are also popular with our ante and postnatal members, who want to be able to exercise to a good intensity without too much impact and load through their weightbearing joints. Our water-based exercise classes can and will continue to meet the needs of a wide range of exercisers, from beginner with no experience, right through to more advanced and experienced participants.
HFE is a specialist training provider to the health and fitness industry and they deliver a range of industry-recognised qualifications, including personal training courses, group exercise qualifications, and health and wellbeing coaching qualifications. With a proven track record in the active leisure sector, HFE stands out as the preferred choice for Newport Live to facilitate this training. In addition to their quality first training approach, they are also an ‘Enhancing’ CIMSPA Training Provider – the highest quality grade for active leisure industry training providers. This to us illustrates their commitment and dedication for delivering quality training and education to our team.
The Level 2 aqua instructor course provided by HFE, will equip our team with a comprehensive range of knowledge and skills that will allow them to plan, deliver and adapt water-based exercise classes toa diverse range of participants. The course will broaden and deepen the teams’ specific understanding of exercising in water, including the anatomical, physiological, and biomechanical demands of this approach compared to land-based exercise. Essentially, this knowledge will allow the team to deliver safer and more effective aqua fitness sessions that can be enjoyed by all.
Rick Gardiner, Head of Operations at HFE said: “We’re extremely proud to support Newport Live with the ongoing education and training of their fitness-team, ensuring the provision of exceptional fitness classes throughout Newport.”
