Since the New Year, Newport Live has been working with its partners within the City to relocate the activities and clubs previously based at the Newport Centre. Although many of the activities have been relocated to alternative locations, unfortunately, no suitable location has been found to house the Active Tots (Soft Play) programme. We have therefore had to make the sad decision to stop this activity for the foreseeable future. We know that this is a huge loss to the young families of Newport.
Newport Live does offer young families additional Tots activities at our other facilities and through other programmes. These include:
Tennis Tots
Tots tennis is a fun way to introduce children aged 2-4 to a tennis racket and the basics of the game using fun activities, exercises and games.
Sessions are geared towards developing the sporting ABCs - agility, balance and coordination, with a focus on enjoyment.
Players will have the chance to meet with other children and encourage social interactions.
Parents/guardians will be encouraged to come on court to help their child throughout the sessions, so please wear trainers. It's a great way for to be active together!
Sessions take place on Mondays at 1:15pm, Thursdays at 11:15am and on Sundays at 9am, £4.35 per child.*
*Equipment provided. Adults must be present during the session.
Balance Bikes
This session is for young children aged 2-5, who will have fun scooting around in a safe environment! This is the first step of the journey of learning to ride a bike.
Balance bikes are fantastic for developing children’s balance and basic skills to help them learn to ride alone quicker than using traditional stabilisers. Over a few sessions, riders will be able to scoot and glide, while having fun through an obstacle course, under the limbo pole and over ramps.
Children will need to be supported by a parent or carer.
Children are encouraged to bring their own helmet to this session. We have a limited number of helmets available which are cleaned before and after each session.
Stabilizers are not allowed or used during the session.
Sessions are held on a Sunday, morning and book up fast. Sessions cost £4.60 and are limited to 15 riders.
The session will take place in the inner arena at the Geraint Thomas National Velodrome of Wales.
Family Swim
Our family swim sessions are recommended for families with children under 8 looking to enjoy the pool, practice their swimming and have fun in a friendly, safe environment. Our weekday sessions are perfect for pre-schoolers!
Family swim sessions are bookable 1 week in advance and are not suitable for parties.

Sessions cost £4.35 per Adult, £2.60 for Seniors, £2.20 for a Junior and Infants under 4 years of age go FREE. Child supervision guidelines apply to all family swim sessions.
Bubbles
Bubbles provide a fully supported introduction to the aquatic environment and learn to swim programme for babies and young children with an accompanying adult, specifically aimed at children aged 0-3 years.
These sessions are always popular. In the current sessions, Bubbles 1&2 is on a first come first serve basis but Bubbles 3&4 is still currently full.
Riverfront Theatre
We have activities and performances suitable for even the youngest members of the family at The Riverfront Theatre & Arts Centre!
Our workshop programme features Hubble Music & Movement, a fun and upbeat mixed age and ability preschool workshop suitable for babies from around 6 weeks to children aged 5. The sessions run every Tuesday during Term time.
Welly Walking
During the School Holidays, Join us on our FREE welly walks, for some fun outdoor physical activities. (Whatever the weather) Suitable for families with children 2 - 5 years, siblings are welcome.
