Newport Live is delighted to announce the resounding success of the Momentwm launch event, which took place on October 5th at the Geraint Thomas Velodrome in Newport International Sports Village. The event, attended by partners, dignitaries, and friends of Newport, marked the beginning of a groundbreaking initiative set to transform transportation in Newport towards a happier and healthier city.

During the launch event, the Momentwm Team presented an Adult Bike Skills session, with attendees from the GAP, a charitable organisation dedicated to supporting refugees and the homeless which underlined the transformative power of cycling as a tool for empowerment and self-reliance. Sessions provide a distinct opportunity for participants, many of whom have no prior biking experience, to acquire essential cycling skills. To date, more than 30 individuals have participated in these sessions, enabling them to gain newfound independence for navigating the city.

Momentwm is a visionary project delivered in partnership with Newport City Council, The Burns Delivery Unit and Transport for Wales. It aims to show how a more active lifestyle where walking, wheeling or cycling more often can have many personal benefits as well as helping to improve people’s local communities. All these benefits will combine to help transform Newport into a cleaner, greener, and more people-focused city, that is accessible and enjoyable for all.

Gethin, Active Travel Programme Manager, says, "Momentwm represents a significant step forward in our efforts to transform Newport into a city where sustainable transportation choices are not only encouraged but celebrated. Take our Adult Bike Skills session which is just one of the exciting offerings we have for the residents of Newport to get involved with. It's designed for individuals of all abilities, from those who have never ridden a bike to those looking to enhance their cycling skills. Newport Live’s Momentwm project is a testament to our commitment to a cleaner, greener, and healthier Newport.
