Volunteers are a key and integral part of the Sports Development Team. The team has an excellent track record of recruiting, developing and deploying volunteers of all ages, currently Sport Development has over 100 active volunteers allowing a quality provision to be run across Newport on a larger scale.

Why Volunteer?

Newport Sports Development has a Volunteer Development pathway available to any young person looking to develop their skills and coaching ability. The purpose of the pathways is to guide volunteers through a structured system to ensure that their needs are met in a professional and tailored manner.

Running parallel with Sport Wales Young Ambassador programme the pathway has four levels; Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. All volunteers receive log books to work through with their mentors, tracking their volunteer hours, courses completed and any other personal achievement and personal development work.

As well as experience in a range of city wide and community projects volunteers and coaches are supported through coach education courses and additional training. The team works with a variety of external organizations to provide a range of different coach education such as Sports Leaders Level 2 and 1st For Sport Level 2. Sports Development also runs monthly training for coaches in additional to workshops for volunteers and coaches through the Street Games Training Academy.
