Steve has 20 years experience of working in high performance sport, national governing bodies of sport and local government. He created the business model for Newport Live whilst working as the Head of Service for Newport City Council before leaving to take up the challenge of delivering the vision.
Steve held a privileged role of Performance Director of a GB Paralympic National Governing body where he created the high performance programme, led and coached athletes and teams who have become World and Paralympic champions - the greatest set of people he has ever met and they inspire him still with their attitude to life.
He is a proud to be from Newport and driven to lead our great team at Newport Live and make the organisation a very successful not for profit, charitable organisation which change the lives of local people in ways they will never know, inspiring them to be the best they can be in all that they do.
Director of Finance and Resources and Company Secretary
Ian is a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants and has worked in the private, public and charity sectors at Board/Senior Management level for many years. His broad range of experience in finance and administration compliments the skills held by other members of the Executive Team.
He has lived most of his life in Gwent and when he is not crunching numbers he supports Risca Rugby Club and he also enjoys travel, cooking and fine dining.
Andrea joined the Executive team in July 2016 as Commercial Director. A proud Newportonian, she has a wealth of experience across the fields of Sales and Marketing having spent 20 years in the Advertising Industry. Most recently heading a business unit within Acorn Recruitment. Prior to that Andrea spent 20 years in the Advertising Industry, including the post Head of Display Advertising at Newsquest. Andrea was responsible for the advertising team at The South Wales Argus regional office in Newport, across the print and digital portfolio.
Andrea brings her knowledge, both commercial and strategic to Newport LIVE, and will be responsible for all elements of commercial development, including sales, marketing, products and services development.
She is keen to see the Newport Live values along with its passion to inspire people to become happier and healthier developed further, through participation in sport, art, and leisure activities.
Director of Operations
Neil has worked in the Leisure industry both in the UK and abroad for over 20 years. Most of his time has been spent in the public sector but has worked in private and charitable organisations also. Neil enjoys working with colleagues and customers to find solutions and improve service. Neil has a broad range of experience across health and safety, management, delivery and operational quality auditing. Neil regularly enjoys challenging himself with marathons, long distance swims, triathlons and cycling. He also enjoys time with the family.
Head of Sport & Physical Activity Development
Having worked in Local Government in England and Wales for 18 years with high performing Sports Development Teams and Sport & Leisure Services, and more recently in the Private Sector locally; Karl brings to Newport Live a wealth of expertise, innovation, and strong leadership.
Karl lives in Newport with his family, and is passionate about the area, and in making a difference to local people and local communities. Karl still actively plays sport and physical activity, and coaches football to children as a volunteer himself.
Leading a high performing team of sports development professionals, highly regarded both locally, regionally and nationally; the team head up all of the sport and physical activity, health and wellbeing, diversionary and engagement, community and school sports development programmes in Newport. The team also deliver training, coach education, qualifications, and support to sports clubs, national governing bodies of sport, and manage a number of funding partnerships and key relationships for Newport Live.
Head of Theatre, Arts & Culture
Gillian has over 15 years experience working at senior level in the arts and cultural sectors, primarily in Northern Ireland. Between 2009 - 2014, Gillian held the post of Director of Programmes for the MAC, Northern Ireland's largest arts centre which opened in April 2012 in Belfast. As Director of Programmes, Gillian was responsible for overseeing the strategic development and operational delivery of all programme strands including theatre, dance, visual art, literature, comedy and learning and participation.
The MAC was shortlisted for the prestigious UK Museum of the Year award for its 2014 programme under Gillian's direction. Prior to that Gillian was Director of the Old Museum Arts Centre and played a lead role in all aspects of the design and delivery of a major £18.5 million capital project which became the MAC. Gillian is an experienced fundraiser and has also produced and co-produced a substantial body of work. She has been guest curator on a number of high profile cultural projects including the Representing Ireland showcase as part of the Dublin Dance Festival and the Cultural Tourism Northern Ireland 2012 Advisory Committee. Since moving to Wales in January 2015, Gillian has worked as Creative and Programme consultant for the MAC. A graduate of Queen's University, Gillian holds post-graduate qualifications in both Organisation and Management as well as Executive Leadership. She has been an active member on Boards of several cultural organisations and has recently joined Rubicon Dance as a board member. Gillian is particularly passionate about the positive impact of arts participation for young people and hard to reach communities, something which is core to Newport Live’s objectives and mandate within the City of Newport.
